CAMBRIDGE LOCAL FIRST RAISES OVER $10,000 FOR FOOD FOR FREE

Cambridge, MA –Cambridge Local First’s “Think Local Thank Local” campaign to support Cambridge folks in need exceeded all expectations. The participating Cambridge Local First (CLF) businesses and their customers responded to the increasing needs of our neighbors. Thirty-six CLF businesses donated a percentage of their revenues during the week after Thanksgiving to Food For Free (http://www.foodforfree.org) a Cambridge organization that maintains a food pantry for the needy.

We’re thrilled to announce that Cambridge Local First members raised over $10,000 for this important Cambridge nonprofit. This was the best year ever for this four year old event.

To celebrate the success of the project, a party will be held on January 24th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Christopher’s Restaurant on 1920 Massachusetts Avenue. It’s open and free to the public complete with tasty hors d’œuvres and a cash bar.

About Food For Free

Food for Free began in 1981 when a group of friends realized local food programs were struggling to meet the needs in the community. With borrowed trucks, these volunteers gathered fruit, vegetables, and bread-food that would have been thrown away-and delivered it to meal programs, pantries, and shelters. Since then, Food for Free has helped thousands of area people. . In 2009, Food For Free’s Produce Rescue program helped feed 20,000 people every month, partnering with 65 food programs in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville, MA.
